Under the Sea Inspiration Hop Day 2 | Colored Pencil Mermaid Card

Welcome back for day 2 of the Under the Sea inspiration hop! Today I created a mermaid card using a beautiful block stamp that I picked up at my local craft store. I stamped her out onto a piece of Gina K Designs Artist’s Choice Cardstock which is great for colored pencils. I pulled out some Faber Castell Polychromos colored pencils to color in my mermaid. I love coloring mermaids, and for her tail I followed the inspiration on the block stamp and colored it in with blues and purples.

I then fussy cut her out, added some foam tape behind her and place her on a velum heart.

The sentiment comes from the LDRS stamp set called Mermaid Treasure. I stamped this using Versafine Onyx Black ink and then I pour on some Gina K Designs Fine Detail Clear Embossing powder. When you melt the powder, it gives a nice shine to the sentiment.

The stencil I used is called Perfect Pool Water from MFT. I used 3 different colors of Distress ink onto this panel of Bristol Smooth cardstock. I used Mermaid Lagoon, Peacock Feathers, Cracked Pistachio. The white lines left behind seemed to stark white, so I shifted the stencil and added more color.

Welcome! I hope you are all having a wonderful day. Today’s card is a chocolate themed card. I love this cute stamp set from Stamping Bella Oddball line called “Oddball with a Sweet Tooth.” The sentiment really spoke to me; it says “Sometimes to stop eating all the chocolate, one must first eat all the chocolate.” It’s a very funny and true sentiment. I pulled out my colored pencils for this card. I’m using my Faber Castell Polychromos pencils on a piece of Stonehenge white colored pencil paper. I love using this paper for my colored pencil work. It has a nice tooth to it. To get a smoother look, you could use Gamsol and a blending stump to smooth out your work, but I like the look of the colored pencil lines.

I also used a set of slimline dies from Trinity Stamps to cut out the two panels for my card. I love creating slimline cards lately. Trinity Stamps make some really fun slimline dies. To create my chocolate covered striped panel I used a Trinity Stamp Slimline stencil and blended on some Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink.

Colored Pencils, Not 2 Shabby

Pup in a Cup Stamp Set | Not 2 Shabby Shop | Colored Pencils on Kraft

Hello crafty friends! I’m so excited to introduce the release of a new stamp set in the Not 2 Shabby Shop! It’s called Pup in a Cup. The main image is a darling pug holding onto the edge of a cup. This set also includes lots of fun sentiments and smaller stamps.

I stamped out the pug image onto a piece of Stonehenge Kraft cardstock using a dark chocolate brown ink. I pulled out my favorite art medium to color in this darling doggy, my colored pencils. I adore the look of colored pencils on kraft cardstock. This particular kraft cardstock is fabulous. It has a slight texture to it that allows you to add lots of layers to your work, and the pencils blend beautifully on this paper.

After I finished my coloring, I placed it back in my Mini Misti stamp positioner and re-stamped it. This really helps to revitalize the lines that colored pencils can obscure.

Trinity Stamps Slimline Cards | Not 2 Shabby Design Team Projects | April 2020

Hello everyone! Welcome! Slimline cards are becoming so popular, and I’ve certainly joined the bandwagon. Trinity Stamps has some new fun products to help you create fabulous slimline cards. When I saw that they now have a wonky stitch die for slimlines, I knew I had to have it. I also picked up their Slimline Stripes Stencils (you get two in this set)–I love using stripes on my cards!

For my design team project for the Not 2 Shabby Shop, I created 3 slimline cards. I also used my design team stamp of the month called Petals & Pallets by Concord & 9th to stamp out all the pretty flowers for my cards. I have a 10% off coupon for you to use at the shop: NTS10

Card #1: Flower Pallets Card

I used the coordinating Petals & Pallets dies to cut out this darling pallet with white card stock. I then stamped the wood grain stamp over it with gray ink. I had fun stamping out a lot of flowers, and I added dimension to them with my Arteza colored pencils. This added a lot of depth to them. You can hardly see the pallets for all the flowers, but I love how this one turned out!

Card #2: Hydrangea Forever Friends Card

I used the slimline stripes stencil on my colored card stock. I used Chipped Sapphire Distress Oxide Ink over it, and this gave the card a subtle tone-on-tone look. I love the huge forever stamp from the Petals & Pallets stamp set, and it fit just perfectly at the top of the card. I added a bow around my hydrangeas and a few flower blossoms as accents.

Card #3: Grateful Daisies Card

I love stripes with florals, especially black stripes. I used the second stencil from this set and some Black Soot ink to create this panel. I used the pallet die again for this card. This time I cut it out with brown card stock and stamped it with brown ink. I popped up this die cut piece with Arteza foam tape. I also used foam tape behind two of the flowers. The sentiment fit perfectly between the black stripes.

Adding Shading to Solid Stamped Images | Not 2 Shabby Design Team Project | April 2020

Welcome to my blog! I hope you are having a fabulous day! I’m stamping with solid floral stamps today. I love solid stamps because you get to color with ink. They look darling as is, but I took it one step further and added some shading to the flowers in two different ways.

The stamp set I’m using is from Concord & 9th, and it’s called Petals and Pallets. This is an older set, but it is gorgeous! You can pick it up at the Not 2 Shabby Shop. Here is a 10% off coupon code: N2S10 Link are below!

The first way I added shading is stamping the image with a light shade of ink and then tapping a darker color onto the edges of the stamp and stamping again. However, you need a stamp positioner for this technique.

The second way to add depth is color over the images with colored pencils. You don’t have to color over the whole thing, but just add darker colors where the shadows would be. I pulled out my polychromos colored pencils and deepened the color at the base of each petal. This really makes a flat image turn into something more interesting to look at, and it’s fun to do! 

For my background for these flowers I stamped out the wood plank stamps. There are two of them in this set, so you can really mix up the faux wood grain pattern on your projects. I’ve mentioned before that I love flowers and stripes together. I am also loving flowers and faux wood grain together. The wood grain stamps in this set are so much fun to use!

Card #1: Good Times Wave Card

All that this card involves is a lot of die cutting, but I love how it turned out. This wave die cut is a lot of fun to play with! I cut out two panels at the same time and kept switching out the colors. I covered a piece of white card stock with tape runner and paper pieced it all back together.

Card #2: Layer Stamping Peony Card

Layer stamping is so much fun to do, and it’s great to have stamps like this in your stash for the days you don’t feel like coloring. I love the painterly look of these peonies. I also used a scalloped die to cut out a pretty edge to the gray card stock. I heat embossed the sentiment with white embossing powder.

Card #3: Tone-on-Tone Hello Spring Card

I love background stamps, and the delicate leaves on this one are so pretty. I had fun stamping it out several times and on several different colors of card stock. I cut them out into banners and adhered them down flat onto a kraft card stock panel. I used die cuts for my sentiment, and this card was done.

Card #4: Colored Pencil Flowers Card

I love big floral images, and I pulled out my Prismcolor pencils to color this in. I cut off two corners with the wave die and used some striped pattern paper behind it.

Card #5: Leaves Embossed Birthday Card

With embossing folders you can create some very fast cards. All I did on this card is emboss it, ink blend some Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide Ink onto the panel, and add a die cut sentiment. However, I decided to add another step–I used a very sharp Prismacolor pencil to color in some of the leaves around my sentiment. I also added some translucent enamel dots and Spectrum Noir Clear Glitter Pen over my sentiment, so maybe it wasn’t that fast after all–Lol!

Spellbinders April Card Kit Release & Card Projects |Weekend Fun 2020

Hello everyone! It’s time for Spellbinders’ April card kit! The card kit is called Weekend Fun. It’s a very eclectic kit this time–the elements range from old-fashioned cameos to peaches, bees, and fizzy drinks. You can do so much with this card kit, and they provide you with card-bases, tape, anything you could possibly need to create many gorgeous cards. It’s an all-in-one kit–even envelopes are included!

Card #1: Beautiful Cameo Card

I chose to use the cutting dies first. I love cameos! Look how pretty this silhouette is, and the necklace cutting die just pushes it over the top–so darling! I used a piece of navy blue card stock and one of the floral pattern papers behind my silhouette–the navy paper really makes the silhouette pop! No coloring involved, just cutting dies and paper. The sentiment is from the Die Cut Shapes pack.

Card #2: Everything’s Peachy Card

I really love this bold pattern paper. The green card stock matched it perfectly, so I used two cutting dies to cut out a frame. I surrounded the peach sticker with tiny flower die cut, and I cut up an oval frame die cut to create the leaves for my two flowers. This card was super fast and fun to put together.

Card #3: Hey You Flower Bouquet Card

For this card I used a piece of coral pattern paper to cover my card base. I then added a triangle of purple pattern paper in the corner. I covered my seam with a strip of gold metallic paper. I added on two sticker, some sequins, and this card was done!

Card #4: Old-Fashioned Cameo Card

I wanted to create a cameo card with a very old-fashioned feel to it. This piece of pattern paper did the trick. I also used Spellbinders’ new Hemstitch Rectangle dies to cut out the pattern paper. I love how the pink card stock behind the pattern paper peeks through the stitching! This time for the silhouette, I used the pale pink card stock. I glued on two more die cuts behind it to add a touch of dimension. I love her gold choker necklace!

Card #5: Retro Dog Card

This dog die cut shape is my favorite of them all! Look at his cute little face! I used a very retro-looking piece of pattern paper behind him, and glued on lots of extra little die cut shapes. The sentiment is one of the chipboard sticker.

Card #6: Bee Happy Beehive Card

One of my favorite techniques is to stamp my images on pattern paper and color them in with colored pencils. I used the retro looking paper again for this card. It provided an excellent base color for my beehive and bees. The cutting dies from this kit include dies to cut out this bee as well as some hexagons–I love that! I was too involved in playing with these cute stamps, and I didn’t plan ahead as to where I would put my sentiment. I ended up stamping it on a piece of peach card stock and tucking it under my beehive.

Card #7: Beehive Celebrate like You’re the Queen Card

I love the color combinations on this card. Purple and yellow are complimentary colors, but add in a blue background and you’ve got something really special! I had fun playing with the stamp set again and die cutting the bee and the hexagons. I stamped the images onto a piece of the peach card stock and colored them in with colored pencils.

Card #8: Hugs Card

All of the pattern paper from this kit is exquisite! I particularly love this painterly looking pattern. I adhered it to my card base leaving an 1/8 of an inch boarder around the sides. Next I glued on my hugs chipboard sticker–make sure to use glue behind these because the adhesive on the back isn’t very strong. I put two of the same butterfly die cut shapes together with a little bit of foam tape to make is dimensional.

Card #9: Queen Card

For this card I took inspiration from the example page from the kit. I like how they used strips of paper down the side of their card, so I did that on my card. The crown on top of the silhouette’s head is a die cut shape, and I there is a piece of pattern paper that complimented it perfectly. I also cut out the silhouette with gold metallic card stock and staggered it behind the white silhouette to add some shine to the piece.

Card #10: Yay Card

I added lots of my left over strips of card stock on the front of my last card base. It really is a great design to used up these left-over pieces. I glued down the yay chipboard stickers, and then for some reason, I couldn’t stop adding element to this poor card–lol! I really like how it started but not how it ended up. This is one of those–at least I had fun–cards.

Simon Says Stamp March Card Kit 2020 | Better Together

Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing well and staying safe and happy! I finally found the time to play with the March card kit from Simon Says Stamp. It’s called Better Together, and it’s a beauty! This kit has sold out, but you can buy all the products separately–However, I would skip the watercolor pencils included in the kit. Lol! More on that below. I created 5 cards with this kit–all floral cards and all very different.

Card #1: Split Panel Watercolor Pencil Card

There were 3 floral watercolor panels in this kit, and I used them all. For my first card I went for the beautiful poppy panel. I used the watercolor pencils from the kit, but I didn’t enjoy using them. These pencils aren’t very pigmented. If I could do this over, I’d use my Arteza Watercolor pencils. I almost threw out this panel, but I really wanted to make it work. I cut the panel in half, and then fussy cut around the flowers. I popped them up with foam tape and attached them to the card stock. This made it look fuller. I then attached the sentiment with foam tape in the center.

Card #2: Colored Pencil Dogwood Flower Card

I love this dogwood flower panel! To color it in I pulled out my Arteza colored pencils. They blended nicely on this watercolor paper! After I finished my coloring, I framed it with the striped pattern paper. I did raise it up with foam tape. To embellish it I glued on some Fortune Teller enamel dots–I love these things!!

Card #3: Colored Pencil on Pattern Paper Card

I used my favorite stamp from this set on this card. This vine stamp is so beautiful and unique! I will definitely be pulling this out again. I used my regular sized Misti stamping tool to stamp this out–it wouldn’t fit in my Mini Misti. I stamped it down on one side of the pattern paper, and then all I had to do was flip the paper and stamp again–easy symmetrical stamping. I used 3 Arteza colored pencils to color in the vines, and I allowed the color of the pattern paper to show through on the tips of the petals.

Card #4: Watercolor Pencil Daisy Card

I used the 3rd watercolor panel for card #4. I love daisies! I colored in this panel with the watercolor pencils from the kit. I fussy cut around the petals, and then I used more foam tape to pop it up off the white card stock. To frame it up a bit, I die cut a stitched scallop and glued it down with liquid adhesive.

Card #5: Pattern Paper Showcase Card

I absolutely love all the pattern paper from this kit, and I wanted to use some of my favorites on this card. The bottom layer is a piece of mint card stock, and then I layered stripes of paper over that. I stamped out my image with 3 different colors of Memento ink to create a gradient. I was going to stop here, but I felt it needed something more–and why not add a beautiful flower image? I colored in the flower with more colored pencils. This card it my favorite from the set.

Card #1: Sweet Thank You Card

The stamp set is called Waiting Girl, and she is just adorable. I stamped her onto a piece of white card stock and cololred her in with Copic markers. I used a beautiful piece of striped pattern paper behind my main panel called Love Forever. I really love the simplicity of this card. I think this image would also go great with the sentiment, “Thinking of you.”

Card #2: Paper Pieced Heart Jar Card

The star of the show for this card is the darling cutting die called, Love You Bottle Dies. I cut it out several times with different colors of card stock and paper pieced it back together.

Card #3: Stamped Pattern Love You Card

I used the Waiting Girl stamp again for this card, but just the smaller images. I stamped them randomly across my purple panel with VersaFine Onyx Black Ink. I love this ink; it’s crisp and dark. Then I pulled out some colored pencils to quickly color in the images. The word die cuts come from the Love You Bottle Dies. I cut them out 5 times, and used liquid glue to adhere them together. This gave is some fun dimension on my card.

Card #4: Pocket Full of Flowers Card

I really love this little cutting die; it’s called, Flower in Pocket Dies. Getting a card like this in the mail would brighten anyone’s day! I had fun paper piecing the flowers and greenery over the blue die cut. I used another piece of pattern paper from the Love Forever pack behind my die cut.

Card #5: Colored Pencils on Pattern Paper Card

I used another of the little girl images on this card, and this time I stamped her directly on a piece of pattern paper. I love the soft butterflies on this paper, and it was my inspiration for my color palette.

Not 2 Shabby Shop Spring/Summer Release & Video Hop 2020

Welcome! I hope you are having a fun weekend! Today is the spring/summer stamp release for the Not 2 Shabby Shop!! I have some darling stamp sets to show you! We also have a video hop and a giveaway to celebrate! The links to the videos and the products are listed below!

The hop will run from March 7th – March 14th leaving you plenty of time to watch and comment on each video. One winner will be drawn randomly from the comments on March 15th. The prize is a $25 gift certificate to Not 2 Shabby!

For the cards I created I used the “Spring is in the Air” stamp set. I adore the images in this set! I will have more videos to come using the 3 other new release stamp sets.

Card #1: Stamped Pattern Paper Card

I love using every single image in the stamp sets I create with, and all of the images in this set are so fabulous. I stamped all of the smaller images onto a piece of green card stock using green ink. This creates a lovely tone-on-tone look–subtle but beautiful.  I didn’t want my background to compete for attention with the images I colored in using colored pencils. I wanted the bunny, rainbow and sentiment to really pop on the front of my card. (Don’t you just love that cute little bunny!)

Card #2: Springtime Friends Card

For card #2 I stamped the images onto a piece of Bristol Smooth card stock because I wanted to color them in with my Arteza Real Brush Pens. They blend beautifully on this paper. After my painting was done, I came in with some Gelly Roll Pens and added hatching lines to create more depth in the shadows.

Card #3: Rainy Hello Card

I only created a sliver of a scene behind my little duck image on my third card because I wanted him to be the center of attention. I stamped my image first and covered him up with a mask. I also masked off my card panel with some Post-it Note Tape. Next, I blended on some Distress Oxide Inks, starting at the top, called Salty Ocean, Tumbled Glass, Peeled Paint and Lucky Clover. After that I pulled up all the masks and colored in the duck with Copic Markers. I used the markers to draw in a little bit of grass under the duck so he didn’t appear to be floating on the card. Lastly, I stamped out the sentiment and drew in some rain drops with a white Gelly Roll Pen.
