Harvest Blessings Card Kit | 5 Cards, 1 Kit | Scrappy Tails Crafts

I love a great card kit, and I recently learned that Scrappy Tails Crafts now have card kits. The one I’m featuring today is their Harvest Blessings kit, but there is also a delightfully spooky Halloween kit. It’s time to make some fall time cards! One of my favorite items from this kit is the Harvest Wheat cutting die! It’s fabulous and it’s going down as one of my favorite dies of the year. So, let’s get into the card crafting . . .

Card 1:

For my first card I had to use the Harvest Wheat die. I cut it out with some saffron cardstock and added a few additional stocks to it using brushed gold, rainforest and desert storm cardstock. The set even comes with a little tie to put on the wheat bouquet. Love it!

Card 2:

I stamped out all of the sunflower images and colored them in with Copic markers for my second card. If you like sunflower stamps, this set called Wild Sunflowers is beautifully illustrated. This flower was the focal piece to my card, and I place it in front of an arch die to pull it out from the busy pattern paper.

Copic Markers:

Sunflower Petals: Y21, Y13, Y17

Flower Center: YR27, E37

Leaves: YG06, YG27

Card 3:

On card three I used my favorite technique: pattern stamping. I stamped out all of the sunflower images into a piece of Stonehenge cardstock. I chose one flower to color in for my focal piece. I used Faber Castell Polychromos pencils. These pencils blend like butter on this Stonehenge Kraft! This ink I used is Fallen Leaves. I love using brown ink for my fall time cards.

Card 4:

I don’t have many layering stencils, but I must say I really enjoyed playing with this one. Card 4 is my favorite of my set. The stencil was so fun and effortless to create and I love the result. It also had a coordinating die. I popped up my stenciled piece with a piece of gold glitter foam. For the sentiment, I found that I could stamp it right over the leaves.

Inks:

Flower Petals: Pawsitively Saturated Ink – Sunbeam & Citrine

Flower Center: MFT Kraft & Memento – Rich Cocoa

Leaves: Pawsitively Saturated Inks – Celery, Limelicious, Pearfection

Card 5:

For card 5 I had to use the Harvest Wheat die again. I simply cut it out with gold glitter foam and glued it on the front of an ink blended panel. I added a twine bow around it this time. Super fast and easy card to create.

Ink: Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Ink

Bonus Card:

The single wheat stalk die from the Harvest Wheat die set looks like it could be a lavender stalk, so I cut it out using four different colors of purple cardstock. I used another sunflower that I had colored in with Copic markers. The stamp set includes a lot of lovely sentiments for fall.

Christmas Cards, Colored Pencils

Colored Pencils on Kraft Cardstock | 3 Different Pencil Sets & 3 Different Kraft Cardstocks

Hello! Welcome to my blog! Today I have three Christmas cards to share with you. I used colored pencils on kraft cardstock. It’s one of my favorite techniques. The pencils look so charming and vibrant on the brown cardstock. It’s been a while since I pulled out my colored pencils.

I actually pulled out 3 of my favorite sets of colored pencils, and I used a different brand of kraft cardstock for each card. I had so much fun creating these cards! The stamps are from Stampendous and the images are meant for mini slimline cards.

You can check out my process video below! I also have all of the links to the products listed below as well.

Card #1: Mini Birdie Banner

On card #1 I used Prismacolor pencils. These are lovely wax based pencils and the most affordable of the three sets I’m using today. I build up my scenes slowly–trying not to press too hard with the pencils. If you press too hard with your pencils, your hand will tire quickly and you won’t be able to blend the pencils and build up layers.

To make the ribbon look a little more satin-like, I used Gamsol. Gamsol is an odorless mineral spirit that breaks down the wax and smoothens it all out. However, on the rest of the piece, I didn’t use Gamsol. I love the look of the colored pencils, and I want people to be able to tell that I used colored pencils on my piece. Below is a list of the exact colored pencils I used on this card.

I stamped out all of my images using a stamping platform–mine is a Misti. I left the stamp on the door of the Misti so I could re-stamp it after I was done. This freshens up the lines of the image which can be dulled from the colored pencils. It really helps to make the image pop!

Paper: Dune Cardstock

Prismacolor Pencils:

Red Banner: Orange, Permanent Red & Tuscan Red

Leaves: Chartreuse, Apple Green, Dark Green

Berries: White & Sap Green Light

Bird: White, Orange, Blue Violet Lake, Cool Grey 20%, Cool Grey 50% & Cool Gray 70%

Card #2: Mini Snowman Reach

I love this image of the snowman and the cat! I used Faber Castell Polychromos pencils on this card. These are oil based colored pencils. Again, I started with my lightest colors first and slowly built up the colors and the shadows. I don’t have a sentiment on this card yet–today I’m mostly focusing on the coloring.

Paper: Desert Storm 100 lb Cardstock

Faber Castell Colored Pencils:

Snowman: White & Light Cobalt Turquoise

Striped Scarf: White & Light Cobalt Turquoise,

Light Cobalt Turquoise & Cobalt Turqoise

Light Green & Permanent Green

Cobalt Turquoise & Helio Turquoise

Orange Scarf: Dark Chrome Yellow, Dark Cadmium Orange & Light Cadmium Red

Pink Scarf: Medium Flesh, Alizarin Crimson & Middle Cadmium Red

Hat: Medium Flesh, Alizarin Crimson & Middle Cadmium Red

White Polka dots: White & Light Cobalt Turquoise

Fur at bottom & Top of Hat: Ivory, Light Yellow Orchre & Brown Ochre

Cat: Warm Grey III, Warm Gray V & Warm Grey VI

Card #3: Mini Tree Cottage

This little cottage scene is so cute! You could color this really simply with a limited green color palette; however, I used 4 different color combinations to color in my trees. (They are listed below.) I used Caran d’Ache Luminace colored pencils on this card. They are a wax based pencil and the most costly of the three sets. After I finished coloring the trees and the house, I added a pale pink and purple colors around my scene to indicate a pretty sunset.

Paper: Stonehenge Kraft

Colored Pencils: Caran d’Ache Luminance

Cottage: Herculanum Red & Burnt Sienna 50%

Windows: Bismuth Yellow

Chimney: French Grey 10%, French Grey 305, French Grey (Darkest of the 3 pencils)

Tree Combinations:

Middle Verdigris & Chromium Oxyde Green

Spring Green, Grass Green & Dark Sap Green

Light Malachite Green & Malachite Green

Beryl Green & Dark English Green

Snow: White & Light Malachite Green

Background: Herculanum Red & Hibiscus Pink

So, after completing all three of my cards, I definitely enjoyed using my Faber Castell Polychromos pencils the most. Second, would be the Prismacolors. My favorite paper was the Stonehenge Kraft. It has some nice texture to it, and allows my pencils to blend beautifully. I was able to put down a lot of layers on this paper.

Colored pencil is my favorite art medium! I love them! I’ve been using them since I was a teen–I still have the old tin box my Prismacolors came it, even though the pencils are all used up. I highly recommend giving this medium a try. If you’re uncertain, purchase a small set of pencils–they don’t have to be the most expensive brand, but I wouldn’t use a cheap, hard wax brand either. Prismacolors are great to start with. They’re creamy and blend with ease. Have fun coloring!!
