Floral Cards, Spellbinders, Watercolors

Wildflowers & Watercolors Card | Spellbinders | Watercolor Floral Collection

There is a new line of Watercolor Floral stamps in the Spellbinders’ shop, and today I’m creating with the set called, “Field of Flowers.” Of course, I had to pull out my watercolors to pair with this beautiful stamp. There are 6 different sets in this collection as well as a sentiment set, and they are all lovely.

First I heat embossed the image onto a piece of hot press watercolor paper using some black pigment ink and clear embossing powder. I love the look of the glossy, raised lines. You could skip this step and stamp it with waterproof ink. The ink I used is called VersFine Clair Nocturne ink, which is a waterproof ink and you can also emboss with it.

Next, I taped it down to a wooden board. I made sure to leave myself plenty of room around the stamped image to tape it down and to die cut it. I pulled out my Daniel Smith watercolors. I started at the bottom of the image with a dark green paint, then light green, then blue and lastly, pink and orange. After my first painting, I allowed it to air dry. The colors do dry back a lot more pale, so I added a second layer of paint.

Once, my second layer was dry, I came back in with lots of different colors to paint in the wildflowers. I didn’t add much water to the watercolors, so the paint went down highly pigmented.

I allowed that to dry, and then I die cut the panel with Spellbinders’ Rectangular Hemstitch dies. I used a piece of leftover watercolor paper to stamp the sentiment on and cut that out into a banner.

I popped up the watercolor panel with foam adhesive, as well as the sentiment. To add a little more interest, I added twine around the sentiment strip and water droplet beads around the panel.

Here is my process video. You can watch it here or over on my YouTube channel in HD.
