10 Cards, 1 Kit |Simon Says Stamp August Card Kit 2018 | Mandy’s Flowers

Hello! Welcome to my blog! So I’ve finally finished my 10 cards using Simon Says Stamp’s August Card Kit!! I was on vacation, but I didn’t want to miss out on this kit because it’s so fabulous. I even purchased the coordinating dies for the stamp set called Mandy’s Flowers. This is a stamp set that I can see myself pulling out and using often. I wanted the coordinating dies so I could do several fabulous techniques such as partial die cutting and set back stamping. I had so much fun creating these cards! I hope I’ve given you some ideas for your card crafting!!

Card #1:

My favorite thing about this card is the picket fence! I chose to color it in with my earth tone Copics, but it would look really sharp and cute if you kept it white and used some gray Copics for shadows. The nice thing about this stamp is that the sides are open ended, so you can stamp your fence all the way across your card if you want to. I created a little vignette with the fence and some flowers popped up in front with some foam tape. It’s kinda 3D because the fence also has foam tape behind it. The edges along the window were looking a little raw, so I created my own frame by using a rectangle die in the middle of a piece of purple card stock. I trimmed away the excess until it was a really thin frame. I stamped the sentiment right onto a piece of the pattern paper that came in the kit. For the inside of the card I stamped out the flowers onto the pattern paper and colored them in with colored pencils.

Card # 2:

I love the background stamp that came in this kit; it’s called Modern Rose Blooms. (I called it Modern Flowers in the video, but that’s not correct.) I used VersaMark ink on it so I could heat emboss it with white embossing powder. There is so much you can do with this stamp! I then blended on a Distress Oxide ink called Broken China. I cut it up into stripes and angled them down the front of my card along with some strips of card stock from the kit called Cotton Candy.

To color in the flowers I used Copic marker again-one of my favorite pink combos (see below). I used foam squares behind my die cut image and die cut sentiment.

Card #3:

Coloring with Prismacolor pencils on colored card stock is one of my favorite things to do. I stamped the wreath image onto another piece of Cotton Candy card stock, and this card stock has some nice tooth to it. I stamped out the thank you sentiment inside the wreath-I always need thank you cards! I was glad I tested it to see if this sentiment fit in the wreath because the large sentiments in this set don’t fit unless you stamp it with the flower at the top or the bottom. I used the coordinating die to cut out the wreath in a piece of pattern paper and fit this around the wreath on my colored card stock.

Card #4:

I created a chalkboard card using black card stock and white embossing powder. However, before I heat embossed it, I stamped it out with white pigment ink. This makes it easier to color in-the raised lines of the embossing don’t get in the way. I adore the pattern paper I used behind the chalkboard piece! I stamped one of the many smaller sentiments onto a piece of white card stock and added a few heart sprinkles around it.

Prismacolor Pencils: Pencils: 195 Pomegranate, 928 Blush Pink, 1088 Muted Turquoise, 907 Peacock Green (Same pencils as card# 3.)

Card# 5:

I created a very dimensional image with the potted flowers stamp. I stamped and colored it in twice. I then cut out the two flowers and the rim and tray on the pot. The foam tape I put behind these pieces made the pot and flowers look 3D. This card is a lot cuter in person–it was hard to catch the dimension in this picture. I also used all the smaller sentiments to stamp out my own block of text behind the flowers. I used another piece of pattern paper to frame it and a piece of Gina K’s Sweet Corn card stock for my card base.

Card #6:

I could use more of this fancy text pattern paper–it’s so pretty! I cut it out with a scallop frame die. The card base is made from Doll Pink card Stock, and I adhered another piece of Cotton Candy card stock onto the base at an angle. I also adhered the patter paper flat onto the card. I popped up my die cut image with some foam squares. I used some hot pink Copics to color in the tulips. To add some color to the pattern paper, I stamped the heart image and dots around the flowers. I also added the Nuvo Bubblegum Blush Drops around them. I love how bright and pretty this card turned out.

Card# 7:

I used the coordinating dies for the images on this card to do a partial die cutting technique. I taped the dies over the stamped and colored images and placed half of this panel between the plates. When I rolled it through my Sizzix Big Shot, it only cut out half of the images. I used my paper trimmer and a pen knife to cut out the rest of the card panel. I put foam tape behind this panel and adhered it to a pretty piece of pattern paper.

I used Prismacolor pencils to color in the flowers and the vase. To add highlights and used a white gel pen.

Prismacolor pencils: 118 Cadmium Orange Hue, 1002 Yellowed Orange, 992 Light Aqua, 913 Spring Green, 909 Grass Green, 902 Ultramarine

Card# 8:

For this card I used the wreath stamp again, but this time I colored it in with Copic markers. I used the coordinating die to cut it out and popped it up with foam tape. I stamped the small images from the stamp set all over a piece of white card stock. I then  used Spruced Ice and Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxides to add color; however, I wish I had blended on the color before I stamped out the images because the Distress Oxides dulled my stamping. I used up the yard of twine from the kit to add a cute touch of texture behind the wreath. I really love this twine from May Arts Ribbon. I have a whole spool of it, and I use it a lot. The black card base adds a lot to the design of this card. Inside the card I heat embossed another sentiment and images with white embossing powder.

Card# 9:

The background stamp is the star of this card design. I inked it up with VersaMark ink, and poured Wow Metallic Platinum Sparkle Embossing powder over it. I love this embossing powder! I then blended on Tattered Rose Distress Oxide. I used the coordinating die to cut out a window in this pane and put foam tape behind this panel. I stamped and colored my image onto a piece of white card stock so that it would line up with this window.

For the inside of the card I used some more Wow embossing powder called Pink Lady to emboss the images.

Card#10:

I colored in the pot and flowers again for this card, and I tried to match my coloring to the colors on the pattern paper I chose for this card. Using the Copic Marker Hand Color Chart really makes matching colors easy. You can download it for free from the Copic Marker’s Web Site. I also embossed some lines into my white panel using my paper trimmer as a scoring tool and my bone folder. This gave my card a lot of fun interest. I also used another piece of the Tonic Powder Blue Lace paper to mat the pattern paper. On the inside I used up some of the scraps I had left over.
