Well, actually, it’s 12 cards, 1 kit this month–lol! Hello! Thanks for stopping by. Simon Says Stamp’s June card kit is a beauty, and I had a blast making cards with it. It’s called Fly Me Away, and it features the gorgeous stamp set called Beautiful Flowers. The pattern papers included in this kit are full of watercolor backgrounds and hot air balloons. The kit was packed with fun products, including a new 3D embossing folder from Tim Holtz and Distress Resist Spray.

Card #1:

For my first card I couldn’t help but start with the huge floral stamp from Beautiful Flowers. I stamped it onto a piece of the pattern paper called Monda Scrap Fly & Scrap using MFT’s Extreme Black Ink. I pulled out some Prismacolor pencils that matched the paper and started coloring.  I used a stamping platform to stamp it onto the paper, and I’d wished I had left it on the door of the platform so I could have re-stamped it when I was done with my coloring to sharpen up the line–oh well, next time! I love coloring on pattern paper because it give you a base color to start off your coloring.

Card #2:

I used my favorite piece of pattern paper from this kit to create this card. I loved the look of the buildings on this paper and the colors! This was a quick card–I let the pattern paper be the star of the show.  I added a sentiment, some twine, some Nuvo Crystal Drops in Silver Lining, and called it done. The pop of color from the sentiment really added to this card. I used two colored pencils for that.

Card #3:

I chose another gorgeous piece of pattern paper to create this card. I dipped the edges of this paper in some VersaMark Ink and then heat embossed it with some silver Hero Arts Embossing powder. I also heat embossed the sentiment onto strips of black card stock and used Hero Arts White Embossing powder. The card stock I used for the base of this card is Green Eyed Monster from MFT. I thought it matched well with the greenery hanging from the basket of the balloon.

 

Cards #4 & #5:

These cards are a 2-for-1 deal. I stamped the large flower stamp twice to create these cards. I stamped it first onto a 5 1/2 by 4 1/4 piece of cornflower blue card stock with VersaMark Ink and then poured clear embossing powder over it.  Then I stamped it onto white cardstock of the same size with Extreme Black Ink. I colored in the flowers on the white card stock with Copic markers, and then I cut both panel in half together so I knew they would be cut in the exact same place. I trimmed 1/4 an inch off the two bigger panels and replaced it with a sentiment strip. The sentiment I stamped with black StazOn ink onto the gold card stock from the kit. I added a few silver foil crystals to add some sparkle to my cards. I learned this technique from Jennifer McGuire, and I love how these two cards turned out.

Card #6:

This was another simple card to put together with beautiful results. I love the feathers on this piece of pattern paper. I die cut the paper with a faux stitched rectangle die. I stamped a few of the smaller sentiments from the stamp set along the feathers to add more interest to this card. The main sentiment I stamped onto a strip of cornflower blue card stock. I love that some of these sentiments are outlines so you can color them in. I used two Prismacolor pencils to color in the “loved” sentiment.

Card #7:

I was excited to use the Daniel Smith watercolors for this card. For my card base I cut down a piece of Canson XL watercolor paper to a standard A2 sized card. I stamped out a part of the floral image with VersaFine Onyx Black ink, poured on some clear embossing powder and melted it with my heat tool. Embossing your image makes the painting go faster. These paints were very nice and pigmented. I wish I had more so I could get a better feel for them. I used a size 8 watercolor brush to flick paint spatters all over the front of my card. One layer cards are fun to create. I stamped out more flowers from the set on the inside of the card using a gray ink so it wouldn’t obscure the sentiment inside.

Card #8:

I really love the 3D embossing folder that came in the kit. I embossed a piece of white paper, but I left about 2 inches of it hanging out of the folder. I wanted a smooth place to stamp my sentiment. They suggest to lightly spray your paper before you run it through your die cutting machine–this helps the paper mold better to the details of the embossing folder. Also run it through your die cutting machine 3 times. I then used some Delicata Golden ink and blended it over the raised images of my embossed paper. I used more gold card stock as a card base.

Card #9:

The Distress Resist Spray intimidated me a little, but I wanted to try everything from this kit, so I forced myself to use it. I’m glad I did because this stuff if so much fun! Look at the gorgeous distress resist on this card. Make sure you use a cardboard box to spray it into and clean off the nozzle after you use it. I was able to create the cute stripe around my sentiment by masking it with a strip of masking paper. I blended on some Distress Oxides after the resist spray was dry. I used Seedless Preserves and Salty Ocean.

 

Card # 10:

I used a piece of Peacock card stock for this card. It’s a new card stock that Simon Says Stamp offers, and I really like it. I love using white embossing powder on darker card stocks, so that’s what I decided to do with this card. I stamped my sentiment and flower images in a diagonal across the panel. I also cut up the striped pattern paper and glued the strips across the panel along with some strips of white card stock. I colored in the flowers with Prismacolor pencils and I added Nuvo Crystal drops in Bubblegum Blush around them.

Card #11:

I loved the soft look of this piece of pattern paper. I cut it down very carefully so I could use the excess to decorate the front on my panel. I cut out two matching flowers, matted them with cornflower blue card stock and popped them up with some foam squares for added dimension. To stamp the sentiment I used Simon Says Stamp Steel Blue Ink, and I added a few Nuvo Crystal Drops Bubblegum Blush around it.

Card #12:

I always need more masculine birthday cards in my stash, and I thought this piece of pattern paper would do nicely. I cut it down to 5 by 3 3/4 and stamped the happy image three time. I used my Mini Misti for that so I could align them perfectly. I only colored in the middle sentiment. I matted my card panel with more gold card stock and then used the last of my Peacock card stock for the card base. I also used the rest of the pattern paper to decorate the inside of this card.

Hello! I hope you are all having a great week! I’m inking up a stamp set from Simon Says Stamp called, “From the Rooftops.” This stamp set came out at the beginning of the year, I’ve had it on my desk for a few months, and I’m finally getting around to playing with it. I really love the uniqueness of this set and knew I could get a lot of use out of it. I created a whole set of cards from this stamp set, and I didn’t even use all of the sentiments it included.

Card #1: Pinterest is a great resource to find color inspirations for your cards. I wanted to color in these skyscrapers with bright, happy colors, and I found this color scheme. One of the colors was supposed to be navy, but I didn’t have a navy Copic marker, so I substituted B66 which is a dark purply-blue.

Copic Markers – R83, RV17, YG03, B66 & Y11

Card #2: The color inspiration for this card came right from my Copic marker chart. I wanted the colors to be more muted, so I picked out desaturated colors from my collection. I fussy-cut the buildings, but I didn’t put any foam tape behind them. I used my tape runner to adhere these buildings flat onto my card panel. However, before I adhered them, I blended some Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxide onto the card panel–it made it look like sunshine behind the buildings.

Card #3: I decided to elongate the mountains from this set and add some clouds. It’s really fun to alter your stamps to capture the vision you have in your head. I drew in my changes with a pencil and then drew over my lines with a .3 Copic Multiliner.

Card #4: For this card I wanted springtime mountains, so I pulled out some green Copic markers.  After all my drawing and coloring was done, I masked the mountains and the speech bubble so I could blend on some Tattered Rose Distress Oxide.

I have Simon Says Stamp’s May card kit on my craft table, and I’ve created 10 card with it so far.  Here is a picture of my craft table completely covered with these cards! I had a blast playing with all the fabulous products jam packed in the kit. The process video I filmed of these cards is the longest one I’ve ever published, but I loved every minute of this creative process. I would definitely do it again! (I’ve included a picture of this card kit at the end of this blog!)

I used a lot of pattern paper and stickers for these cards which I don’t usually do. However, I loved it! These cards came together so quickly, I added a lot of cards to my stash, and I loved the finished products. Often I think that if it’s worth creating, it has to take lots of time and work and energy, and I have to remind myself that this is not always the case.

Card #1: For this first card I stamped all the flowers from the stamp set called “Everything Together.” I loved the tone-on-tone look of the orange paper and the orange ink. However, as the ink dried, it faded, so you can barely see the flowers on the orange paper. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. I cut down a piece of striped pattern paper and stamped the sentiment right over it.  The stamps in this set are fabulous–they’re bold, fun, cute, and large!

Card #2: With the other half of the orange tone-on-tone pattern paper I created, I made another simple card. For most of these cards I also decorated the insides. You can see them in the video below.

Card #3: I used the mini stamp set for this card–it’s called “Take Heart.” It’s the only card I colored on. To color in these images I pulled out a few Prismacolor pencils. I stamped the teacup full of flowers and the hummingbird right onto this piece of pattern paper. I didn’t cover up the pattern with my coloring; rather, I allowed the pattern to show through, and I love this effect.

Card #4: I used another cute piece of pattern paper for this card as well as some of the epoxy heart stickers from the kit. This card was really quickly put together–a little stamping and stickering, and it was complete. I like the look of the black card stock that I used from my stash to mat the card panel–the gray card base that was included in the kit also adds a nice touch to this card.

Card #5: This card is one of my favorites because of the cute pattern paper. I love books–I worked in a library for years; so this piece really appealed to my book-nerd heart. Again, I was able to stamp the sentiment right onto the busy pattern paper because they are so huge and bold.

Card #6: This card has a sentiment with a lot of punch, and I’m blessed enough to know a lot of people I could send this too–I’ll just have to make up more cards with this sentiment. I used the heart word die cut, and I really liked the font–it’s so delicate and pretty. The only thing I don’t like about this card is the Nuvo Crystal Glaze I tried to put over this die cut. The nozzle on this bottle just wasn’t thin enough, and the glaze got all over.

Card #7: The stamp on this card was the star of the show because of its size. If you need a super fast card, this would be the sentiment to use-lol! I added puffy stickers on the corners and called it done. The puffy stickers coordinate very well with all the pattern paper.

Card #8: I certainly didn’t need additional pattern paper, but for this card I created my own using all the flower stamps from the “Everything Together” set. I only used the two mini ink cubes that came in this kit and black ink from my stash. When I first started stamping this, I hated it. However, I carried on, and this became one of my favorites out of the ten cards. I like the pops of black ink and the black card base I used behind it. I also used a few clear sequins to add a little shimmer.

Card #9: I used up a lot of scraps for this card. I didn’t want to add any more paper scraps to my already bulging box of scraps. As it is, I did end up with a lot of left-overs. I stamped out some more flowers–I used a green ink from my stash for the leaves. I fussy cut them out and popped them up on the card with foam squares.

Card #10: I would call this a masculine card even though there are flowers in the corners. I stamped the flowers in black ink, and I think they look more like silhouettes. I mounted this on the last of the orange card stock that I turned in to a card base. I also used a tiny piece of the Simon Says Stamp’s masking paper included in the kit to mask the flowers so I could stamp leaves around them.

I have a lot of left-overs from this kit! I’m going to let my daughter play with it too. We both love creating cards! I ordered a subscription to Simon Says Stamp’s kit of the month, and I can’t wait to see what June’s Kit will be.
