My Year of Making Cards

Making cards for my family and friends is my goal this year. I just discovered card crafting. It mesmerized me–the pretty papers and inks, the stamps and dies involved in the process–but beyond that, I love the idea of sending out these little works of art into the world to brighten someone’s day. I’m hoping that the finished card is delightful enough that the receiver will want to display it where they can see it for a while.

I live very far from home <tear> (well, only a few states away, but still!). I’m very family oriented and I miss them terribly! Sending hand made cards will help me to keep in touch. I can see it all now: make card, mail card, family member receives card, feels loved, and calls or texts back. <grin>

I’m one of those last minute card buyers–purchasing a card on the way to the party. However, I like the idea of putting more thought and care and detail into the cards I give out. With two young kids it’s hard to find the time to sit at the craft table and create, but I’m figuring it out as I go along. Just like my card crafting–I’m figuring it out as I go along.

I’ll post my card creations and see what I can learn throughout this year. I suspect that this will be a life long pursuit. No more drugstore cards for me. I hope you follow along, and I’d love to hear what you think.
